Alan Devine and Public Speaking
On the 6th of October Alan Devine came in to our school to talk to us about public speaking. He told us about the importance of attitude and energy. He spoke about standing tall and confident and how vital it is to use hand gestures and eye contact. He demonstrated this at the start of the day, he spoke very low, looked at the ground and made little to no eye contact. He asked us what we thought of this and we used words such as boring and strange. He played many games with us to help improve our public speaking skills. Such as making eye contact with people and holding it for 3 seconds and using hand gestures. We also had to stand infront of the class and tell one of his jokes. He told us many ways to get the audience to actually listen to you by the use of hand gestures and asking questions to get them thinking. Overall, i found Alan very helpful and enjoyable. It was a fun way to learn about public speaking. He also gave us notes on how to write a good speech which we must learn of and deliver to the class on Friday the 13th. He said it must be something personal which you enjoy talking about.
